You may recognize Mikey Deleasa and his famous family from Married to Jonas, but fans of the show might not realize that he too has a passion for music. Mikey recently came by the J-14 offices and dished about his new music, the show, and what it's really like to be related to the Jonas Brothers!
J-14: Tell us about how you got started making music!
Mikey Deleasa: I started a band in middle school and from that point on I never stopped. I kept playing through high school and college. I was working on a solo record and some one out in L.A. heard it and the next thing you know I'm flying out there for two months to work on music. I built some good friendships and working relationships and the next thing I knew I was living out in LA for two and a half years working on music.
J-14: Who are some artists you've taken inspiration from?
Mikey Deleasa: I like a lot of funk and soul stuff. I'm a very big fan of Jamiroquai. I also think Jason Mraz is a talented artist, so I'm a big fan of him and there's a new guy out named Allen Stone who I think is absolutely phenomenal. Those are some people I admire but even growing up listening to a lot of doo-wop stuff like Smokey Robinson thanks to my father and Dean Martin thanks to my mom, I would say I'm inspired by pretty diverse styles of music.
J-14: Your sister Danielle has married into quite a famous family! What's your relationship like with the Jonas Brothers?
Mikey Deleasa: Kevin's definitely been great with any questions that come up about the music business because obviously he gone through so much as well as his brothers. It's good to have another professional opinion, another brain to pick. And Joe and I formed a very close friendship and just became best friends.
J-14: Everyone here at J-14 loves 'Married to Jonas'! What's been your favorite experience from the show?
Mikey Deleasa: I would definitely say going to Italy. It was just nice to go on a family vacation. We hadn't done one in quite some time because everyone's been so busy. Since the whole family is doing the show and the show suggested we go on vacation. It was nice for us to take the time and spend time together as a family.
J-14: Any chance of a Jonas Brothers collaboration in the future?
Mikey Deleasa: Nothing's really planned. They're definitely really busy with touring and everything but you never know what the future holds!
