The aging rockstar is trying to revitalize his career with a surprise new single 'Where Are We Now,' which is already climbing the iTunes charts. Listen to the track — do YOU think he's ready for a major comeback?
David Bowie hasn't released a single in 10 years, but the
Changes singer celebrated his 66th birthday on Jan. 8 by releasing
a brand new single on his website titled
Where Are We Now. The new track is off of a forthcoming album titled
The Next Day. The single came as a complete shock to fans –and was dropped with no forewarning.
Where Are We Now is the singer's first single in 10 years, and came in the form of an eclectic music video directed by
Tony Oursler. In the video, David's face is attached to what looks like conjoined twin babies. It also features long shots of Berlin, where David lived during the 1970s.
Rolling Stone notes that the places are some of David's familiar spots from when he lived there.
David Bowie's Career Comeback
The Next Day is David's 30th studio recording, and comes 46 years after his self-titled debut album in 1967. As the pop star gets older, the song follows suit with a slow, aging melody. It proves the next phase of the rocker following a long, iconic career that has varied from glam rock to '80s synthesized pop.
His latest album,
The Next Day, drops in March, but a spokesperson for the singer told the
Daily Mail that he has no plans to tour yet.
