Gonzalo Higuain was the subject of a tug-of-war between France and Argentina as a teenager, and it is easy to see why.
The striker was born in France to a former Argentine player, but left the country after just 10 months, not returning until the 1998 World Cup when he accompanied his father on a scouting job for then Argentina coach Daniel Passarella.
He holds a French passport and after initially rejecting calls from both countries, Higuain opted for Argentina.
After early struggles to make his mark, Higuain won the league in his first season and then cemented his place and won another the following year. Netting 49 in 66 games over the next two seasons, he established himself as one of the best finishers around and spurned the overtures of France (he has duel French-Argentine nationality) to make his name as Argentina's premier marksman.
